Today we are introducing Key — a new kind of platform for professional networks, built for a world where the half-life of a job is shorter than the half-life of a career.
Why now
The shape of work changed faster than the tools around it. Layoffs at the largest companies on earth turned thousands of senior operators into a free-floating cohort overnight. AI rewrote the inside of almost every role. And the institutions that used to hold a career together — employers, alumni networks, industry groups — got quieter at exactly the moment people needed them to be loud.
People did not stop networking. They stopped trusting networking. Generic feeds and cold outreach drowned out the part that actually works: relationships with people who know your work and want you to win.
What Key is
Key is the home for those relationships. It is a purpose-built platform for professional networks — for communities and for the members inside them — with three jobs:
- Help members get real value from the people already around them.
- Give community leaders a branded, owned home that is more than a chat room.
- Bring intelligence into the loop so warm introductions, opportunities, and knowledge actually surface.
That intelligence layer is Kai — our AI that reads context, not just clicks, and proposes paths through a network the way a good friend would: by name, by reason, and at the right moment.
Built by the team behind Xoogler
Key is built by the same team that built and ran the Xoogler community — a 32,000-member network of ex-Googlers across more than 70 countries — over the last decade. We watched up close what a healthy professional community can do for a career, and we watched, in 2023 and 2024, what happens to people when those communities are not there.
We are starting with the people we know best and opening the doors carefully from there.
The round
We are announcing a $4.3M pre-seed led by Felicis, with participation from operators and founders who have built communities of their own. The capital goes into product, intelligence, and the small, deliberate growth of the first communities on Key.
What to expect
You will see us ship — quickly and visibly. You will see communities you already trust set up shop on Key. And you will see Kai become better at the one thing that matters most: putting the right person in front of you at the right time, with a reason you can act on.
If you want to be part of it — as a member, as a community leader, as a partner — the door is open.
